Team Notes

Liriano to take 2008 off
(11/27/07) Kennesaw, GA -

Francisco Liriano, the latest Pat Listach Rookie of the Year award winner in Diamond Mind Baseball, will miss the entire 2008 season after being granted a leave from the team by owner and general manager David Landsman.

"Frankie pitched his heart out for us this year," said Landsman, "I bought him a 12 month cruise around the world. Of course he will be working out and keeping his arm in shape, but the Mighty Men are all about protecting our young arms and we think this is the best way to put Frankie in a position to be successful with our franchise for many years to come."

Landsman continued when asked about how Liriano's absence would affect the team in 2008 and the rumors that Liriano's health was not 100%, "My advisors and I have conferenced at length about this and we feel that this is the best way for Frankie to hea- I mean rehab... I mean get ready for 2009."

Later in the interview Landsman denied that the cruise made port in Alabama. Dr. James Andrews could not be reached for comment.

Moving Minors
(3/18/07) Kennesaw, GA - Matthew's Mighty Men of Marietta announced that they have signed all new minor league affiliates. Owner and General manager David Landsman was quotes as saying, "It is simply a matter of geography. Mt Olive, Stroudsburg, Newton and Hckettstown all treated the Mighty Men franchise very well, but if we need to make moves I don't want my playersto have to travel 1000 miles to get to Marietta." Marietta's rookie team is moving to Ellijay, GA and will be known as the Ellijay Elks. the single A squad will be known as the Peachtree City Peaches and reside in Peachtree City, GA. The double A team will be known as the Acworth Alligators and reside in Acworth, GA. The triple A team will be housed in Kennesaw, GA and be known as the Kennesaw Kangaroos. "Hopefully this will be the last orgnizational move for a long while," said Landsman, "but you never know."

On the Road Again
(8/22/05) Kennesaw, GA - Today, Matthew's Mighty Men of Stanhope announced they were packing their bags and moving the franchise, again. This time the team will move to Atlanta suburb Marietta, GA and be known as Matthew's Mighty Men of Marietta. Just a few years ago the Jeruslaem Rabbis, citing travel problems and a scandal that involved a line drive into the Dome of the Rock during evening prayers, moved to Stanhope. That move involved a name change and a new team Mascot.

"This move is a lot less complicated," said team owner and GM David Landsman, "Our lease was up in Stanhope and I was getting sick of the snow. Not to mention the traffic. Marietta made a very generous offer and there was no way to say no to a new stadium."

"Truthfully, we are pro ball players and all, but NJ was getting damned expensive," said third year outfielder Brad Wilkerson, "I can actually afford a house in GA."

Stanhope fans young and old are not as pleased. One 12 year old from Byram, NJ, known only as DJ said, "It's unfair, you can't move a team to a place and 5 years later rip away. People care about this team." An older woman from Springfield, NJ said, "That David Landsman is a selfish (expletive deleted) moving those grandch-, I mean Mighty Men away."

As the Mighty Men get close to clinching another postseason berth one can only wonder if the fans that have supported this team for 5 years will even bother to attend any home playoff games.
